Pedestrian dies after accident

A WOMAN is dead after being struck by a utility in North Rockhampton near CQUniversity around 6pm Thursday.

Initial investigations reveal that a northbound utility struck a woman as she attempted to cross Yaamba Road near the intersection with Carlton Street.

The 49-year-old local woman was critically injured and transported to Rockhampton Hospital where she died a short time later.

The road was closed while emergency services attended but it is now open again to all traffic.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
