Car dangles from bridge by tow bar, driver trapped inside

IT'S not something you see every day and it could have ended in tragedy.

A car was left dangling off a bridge by its tow bar near Woolooga at the weekend while its injured female driver was trapped inside.

At about 9pm on Saturday, November 7, a Mazda sedan towing a motorcycle trailer failed to negotiated a bend on the approach to the Running Creek Bridge on the Brooweena Woolooga Rd while driving toward Woolooga.

The female driver from Brisbane lost control of the vehicle which then left the bridge nose-first, emergency service personnel have told The Gympie Times.

Dramatically, the vehicle came to rest hanging from the tow hitch of the trailer which was still on the bridge.

Because of the injuries she received in the crash, the driver was unable to get out of the vehicle as it hung supended over the Running Creek.

Emergency service personnel secured the vehicle before the driver was removed and transported to Gympie Hospital for treatment.

Police are pleading with drivers to be careful in this area as this is the third vehicle that has left this bridge in similar circumstances in the last year.
