Carnival a thrill for PCYC
MITCH Passmore made good on his promise that Rockhampton PCYC would benefit from the city's pre-New Year Carnival when he handed over more than $3500.
Mitch, of Bill's Amusements, which organised three nights of fun rides in Stapleton Park in the countdown to 2012, said he was delighted with the public's response to the carnival.
And he said the event could now become a permanent fixture in the city's festive celebrations.
Although it was arranged at short notice and without a great deal of fanfare, the collection of thrill rides, jumping castles and sideshows attracted large crowds for three evenings, culminating on New Year's Eve.
Families were attracted by $20 tickets which gave access to all the rides for up to three hours.
"We got about 1000 responses to leaflets seeking feedback and every one of them was positive. Everybody said they wanted to see us put the carnival on again and we are looking forward to doing that," said Mitch who presented an envelope of cash to PCYC branch manager Sgt Greg Jones.
Sgt Jones said: "It's amazing to receive such a large amount. The carnival was put on at such short notice and we hope we can work more closely with the organisation next time to make it even better."
He said the money was very welcome.
"We always have projects in the go and we have some young leadership programs running in primary schools at the moment on a shoestring budget. With this funding we can do so much better."
