Family fun at New Year Carnival
MITCH Passmore and his team toiled all day in the heat and humidity yesterday to bring some family fun to Rockhampton to see out 2011.
By midday tomorrow they plan to have transformed Stapleton Park into a carnival fairground.
Mitch, of Kabra-based Bill's Amusements, said people had often complained that there wasn't anything for children to do between Christmas and New Year.
"We have all these rides sitting idle at this time of year, so we thought we would bring some family entertainment to the city," he said.
So the city's first New Year Carnival will start at 5pm tomorrow, with some of the profits going to the PCYC.
"There will be carnival rides, a sideshow alley and stalls and food, ice cream and coffee," said Mitch.
"Hopefully it will give families the chance to do something together and get the kids away from the telly."
The carnival will be on from 5pm to 9pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with free parking and free entry.
Rides cost $5 each, but thrill-seekers of all ages can buy a $20 band that will give them unlimited access to all rides.
"I really hope it draws a crowd. If it does I think it could be the start of something," said Mitch.
Among the attractions will be dodgems, tea cups, merry-go-round, hurricane, movie simulator, super slide, rock climbing wall and Jurassik Sizzler.
