Car owner discounted as a suspect

THE registered owner of the vehicle involved in Sunday’s attempted abduction in Rockhampton has been discounted as a suspect, police said yesterday.

Rockhampton police district duty officer Senior Sergeant Chris Richards said police were continuing to investigate the Farm Street attack which happened on Sunday morning.

An 18-year-old woman was walking along the street when a man driving a white Falcon station wagon pulled up beside her.

He asked the woman if she wanted a lift.

She ignored him and kept walking.

Police said moments later the man grabbed her by the wrist and tried pulling her into the car. During the attack police said the man said he was there to give the teen a lift.

The woman managed to break free and run away to the nearby residence she was heading to before the incident happened.

Anyone with information that may assist police with investigations should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Rockhampton police.
