Carter blasts Gillard government

MAYOR Brad Carter today took a massive swipe at the federal budget which he claims has totally ignored the needs of the Rockhampton region.

Speaking at the launch of a document which showcases investment opportunities and is aimed at attracting corporate millions he abandoned his normally cautious and diplomatic approach to issue a stinging rebuke at the Gillard government.

He said the budget had neglected the need for critical infrastructure investment and measures to further stimulate the local economy.

Federal MP Kirsten Livermore was invited to the launch of the investment brief, but did not attend to hear the mayor tear her government’s strategy to ribbons.

The document identifies six infrastructure priorities for the region, including $500 million to flood-proof the Bruce Highway across the Fitzroy River floodplain and a third bridge over the river.
