Central Queensland has rugby league nursery to succeed

IF ONLY Central Queensland-raised pair Matt Sing and Rhys Wesser were still lighting up NRL fields across the country.

The former Queensland Maroons pair would slot in perfectly in a team of Central Queenslanders who would help put bums on seats at a Rockhampton stadium.

As Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll and CQ NRL Bid chairman Geoff Murphy pushed the need for a stadium in the region, The Morning Bulletin scoured its eye across the NRL talent pool to discover 11 former Central Queenslanders who could potentially fill a local NRL team.

Melbourne Storm-contracted former Central Queensland Capras fullback Cameron Munster would fill the custodian's role for the club.

Munster's Storm teammate Kurt Mann, 21, has scored six tries in eight matches in 2014 and would partner fellow St Brendan's College graduate Ben Ridge, who plays for the Gold Coast Titans.

Newcastle Knights utility and 2013 Intrust Super Cup premiership winner Matt Minto would join Dally M Player of the Year contender Ben Hunt in the halves.

The pair, along with Broncos hooker Jake Granville, would be able to create plenty of space for their outside backs working behind a quality forward pack which features a pair of Queensland State of Origin players.

North Queensland Cowboys co-captain Matt Scott and ex-Emmaus College student Sam Hoare, who made his debut for the Cowboys a fortnight ago would lead from the front.

Dave "The Coaltrain" Taylor, Broncos young gun Corey Oates and Storm's Tim Glasby, who recently signed with the Cowboys, would line up in the back row.

Retired Sing and Wesser aside, the current average age of the team is 23.
