CFMEU claims 60-70 positions being cut at Blackwater mine

THE CFMEU has this afternoon claimed between 60 and 70 labour hire job positions, at Wesfarmers Curragh Mine site in Blackwater, are being cut.

CFMEU Queensland president Stephen Smyth claimed the announcement was made on Friday.

He further claimed many of these workers would not be entitled to redundancy packages.

"These workers just turn up to work, and if they're told they're down the road, that is that," he said.

"These workers are extremely and unfairly exploited; many receive less than the average permanent worker."

It is not clear at this stage which company these employees are hired by.

The mining company has been contacted for a response to these claims. We will update the story once the company responds to the claims.
