Doctor Blake has been resuscitated

CHANNEL 7 is set to commission The Doctor Blake Mysteries - but for a set of telemovies rather than a traditional eight or 10-part series.

There has been constant chatter in recent months about Seven picking up The Doctor Blake Mysteries after the ABC's shock decision to dump the show.

Now insiders have confirmed the acclaimed Aussie crime drama, starring Craig McLachlan as Dr Lucien Blake, will be part of Seven's programming line-up in 2018.

Seven is expected to make an official announcement about The Doctor Blake Mysteries at its 2018 programming presentation today.

The ABC is currently showing the fifth season of the drama, which also stars Nadine Garner. The season will end with a movie-length finale on November 12.

Initial reports suggested the Channel 7 format would have been for a traditional multi-episode sixth season. But, in an unexpected move, Seven is believed to be planning a series of telemovies - staggered throughout the year - that could be marketed as "event television".

The Doctor Blake Mysteries has been a massive hit for the ABC ever since it debuted on February 1, 2013.
