Charity ride off after crash

A CHARITY motorcycle run to the coast on Saturday was called off after a woman suffered traumatic injuries in a crash on Yeppoon Road involving her bike and a car.

A witness said the woman's bike and an oncoming vehicle collided near the Cawarral turnoff at 3.30pm.

He said it was lucky several nurses who had been driving on the highway at the time stopped to help before police and ambulance arrived.

“She came conscious when the ambulance arrived and she was stressing out when they took her in the stretcher,” he said. “I think she was more in shock than in pain.”

More than 60 bikes had been on the fundraising Poker Run to Keppel Sands and The Caves, but it was then cancelled.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the woman, believed to be in her 40s, and was taken to Rockhampton Hospital with multiple serious injuries. The car driver was unhurt.
