Child playing with lighter believed to have started fire

THE top storey of an East Bundaberg house was destroyed in a fire last night, believed to have started by a child playing with fire.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service Bundaberg station officer Andrew McCracken said three trucks and 12 firefighters responded to the Collins St home at about 11.30pm.

Five adults and two children at the property managed to escape uninjured.

Bundaberg police confirmed they were not treating the fire as suspicious as early investigations indicated a 5-year-old child playing with a lighter started the blaze.
