Childhood dream becoming reality for Pinefest entrant

FROM a young age Charlotte Grice watched from the footpath as the Pinefest Ambassadors passed by.

This year things will be different for the Yeppoon teen who will be in the parade as a Pinefest Ambassador.

The 19-year-old receptionist is hoping to be The Yeppoon Lions Club Pinefest Ambassador for 2014 so she can help her generation make a difference in her community.

"I follow the Pinefest entrants every year and have always wanted to be a part of it," she said.

"I want to show my generation that fundraising and helping your community is fun work. I feel it is very important not just for women but for everyone to participate in these types of events because they boost your confidence, are lots of fun and raise money for a good cause."

Charlotte has hosted a range of charity events in recent weeks to fundraise for her charity, the Jason Rich Foundation.

"I have chosen the Jason Rich Foundation as my charity because I feel it is important for young drivers to have the knowledge and skills to handle a dangerous situation in a vehicle," she said.

"I've had personal experience with an out-of-control car and I am so pleased I had the knowledge to help in that situation. Throughout the quest I've hosted sausages sizzles, trivia nights and my personal favourite was a car rally held in July which might become an annual event."

Charlotte said one of her favourite things about being an entrant was making new friends in the community.

"The other entrants this year are all fantastic girls and I am so proud of all of us," she said.

"I have made some great new friends through the quest, girls with similar sentiments and ideas who are working towards a brighter future for Capricornia.

"It takes a lot of hard work and organisation to be an ambassador entrant and I think everyone has done a superb job this year."

Charlotte hopes to enrol in university and become a history and English teacher.

The annual Pinefest celebrations kick off this Friday from 7.30pm with fireworks on Main Beach.
