IN CELEBRATION of museums all over the world, the Rockhampton Art Gallery hosted a family fun day for the children of Rockhampton on Saturday.

Ariana and Darian Kell were among some of the kids who joined a team at the Rockhampton Art Gallery participating in arts and craft, footpath chalk drawing, face painting and a free barbecue.

International Museums Day was first celebrated in 1977 and every year since the day has been organised worldwide around May 18.

The aim of the day is to raise awareness throughout the world that museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among people. This year's International Museum Day theme was Museums and Cultural Landscapes.
