Children needed for upcoming Opera Australia production

THE Pilbeam Theatre is looking for local boys and girls to perform in the upcoming Opera Australia production of The Magic Flute at the Pilbeam Theatre in July.

Up to 24 boys and girls are being sought to make up a children's chorus which is sure to be a memorable and unique experience.

In the rehearsal period the children will learn the music, be taught a wider understanding of opera and live performance and be given some basic direction and stagecraft skills.

They will then perform on stage with the Opera Australia performers when the tour comes to the Pilbeam Theatre on Saturday 18 July.

Directed by Michael Gow, this new production of The Magic Flute, Mozart's final work for the stage, takes inspiration from the movies.

It is described as being a rollicking adventure set in 1930s Egypt, with mummies, hieroglyphic puzzles and a good few laughs along the way.

Children need to be aged between 8 and 14 years old and have some singing experience. Auditions will be held at the Pilbeam Theatre on Thursday 2 April from 4pm.

To book an audition, contact the Pilbeam Theatre Box Office on 4927 4111.

Opera Australia's The Magic Flute is presented by Rockhampton Regional Council and is part of the 2015 See It Live Theatre Season.
