A RESCUE helicopter has been tasked to a sinking vessel near Townsend Island off the Capricorn Coast, north of Yeppoon.
At 2.55pm the RACQ CQ Rescue Helicopter service said the Mackay chopper had been called to the rescue.
"It's believed one person is on board the vessel and has transferred to a dinghy," a spokesperson said.
The Rockhampton helicopter rescue crew has also been tasked but are not equipped for winch rescues.
The CQ Rescue helicopter lifted off from its Mackay base at 2.52pm for the one hour and 20 minute flight.
The chopper has a medical crew on board.
This is the third mission today for the RACQ CQ RESCUE crew.
Early this morning the crew was tasked to the Whitsunday region where a Dutch woman travelling on a yacht near Hayman Island fell and hit her head.
The incident occurred around 1am this morning and details indicate the woman was unconscious for approximately 20 minutes.
She was transferred from the yacht to Hayman Island’s medical centre before being airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital on board the CQ RESCUE helicopter.
After refuelling at Mackay, the crew flew to Moranbah, west of Rockhampton, for a 38-year-old woman suffering from a chronic medical condition.
She was transferred to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition.
