Local ballet dancers return to Rockhampton with Cinderella

QUEENSLAND Ballet's production of Ben Stevenson's internationally acclaimed Cinderella is set to spread a little magic in Rockhampton in October.

From the antics of the Ugly Stepsisters to the beauty of the wedding pas de deux, this classic production of Cinderella will entertain and charm.

Cinderella is one of the most popular and well known ballets in the classical repertoire. Ben Stevenson choreographed Cinderella in 1970 for the National Ballet of Washington D.C. It has since been performed by many companies across the globe, and is widely acknowledged as one of the best productions of this delightful fairytale.

"We are passionate about sharing our love of dance with regional Queensland audiences, and I'm very excited to bring Ben Stevenson's Cinderella to Rockhampton," Queensland Ballet's artistic director Li Cunxin said.

Set to Sergei Prokofiev's expressive music, this beautiful classical ballet has been danced by some of the most famous ballerinas of our time, including Margot Fonteyn and former local dancers Leanne Benjamin and Mary McKendry.

"Cinderella holds a special place in my heart. Ben Stevenson's production was one of the first ballets that I saw when I went to the West. I had tears in my eyes as I watched it- not only is the music beautiful, but the story is full of magic and joy," Li said.
