CLAIRE Duffy is preparing for one of her biggest roles on stage yet.
Claire has performed under the bright lights of Sydney, but it's her role in a Rockhampton production that has proven to be the most challenging.
She is playing the lead in the musical production of Evita.
"This is one of the biggest female roles in musical theatre, it's so powerful and her role is specific," Claire said.
"I'm extremely honoured to play such a powerful woman."
Evita tells the story of Eva Péron who rose from humble beginnings to the heights of wealth and power as the wife of an Argentinean president.
"She was an icon for South America and she's remembered up until this day," Claire said.
"To be given a role like this is very overwhelming and there's pressure to get it right."
Claire is back on the local stage after spending six years in Sydney and returning to Rockhampton last year.
She said the experience of working in the performance industry in Sydney was amazing but her acting career felt like it became more of a job than a passion.
"I love (performing) so much I didn't want it to be a job, it's my passion," Claire said.
"There's a lot of pressure in the industry, but I'm happy to sacrifice my personal time to do musical theatre."
Claire couldn't be happier to perform in Rockhampton, with an immense amount of talent in the region.
"We have one of the best theatres in regional Queensland and the talent surpasses a lot of production companies in Sydney," she said.
For Claire, this role brings out her passion for theatre and differs from anything she has done before.
"This is actually happening and the show itself is quite emotional and takes the audience on a journey through the story and history," she said.
