Clayton CQ centre of attention as Capras drop like flies

THE pressure is on for John Clayton this week as he steps on to centre stage for the Rockhampton Leagues Club Capras.

With Capras' centres dropping like flies over the past two weeks, all eyes will be on the 26-year-old prop as he replaces an injured Mitch Zornig who had replaced injured three-quarter Marco Delapena.

Capras assistant coach Damien Seibold said having Clayton back in the side would be fundamental in a CQ victory over Northern Pride in round 17 of the Queensland Intrust Super Cup in Cairns on Saturday night.

"John Clayton really adds a lot of starch for us off the bench and with him coming back this week, it's certainly going to help us out a lot because on that bench we've got a lot of inexperienced players," Seibold said.

"Mitch Zornig is out for at least a week. He was really heavily concussed so he needs to have a rest and get himself right.

"John Clayton; we will really look to him to step up in the middle as well as Andrew Dale and Guy Williams, some of the more experienced guys."

Clayton will be joined in his return by Capras skipper Gavin Hiscox but Seibold said the side also had plenty of losses.

"We've got a few changes this week ... we lost a few guys with injury on the weekend," he said.

"Liam Pickersgill has damaged his medial ligament which is not as bad as we first thought. We thought it was his ACL which would have meant 12 months but this is better news for Liam. He still needs surgery but it will be a much quicker recovery for him.

"Sam Madden will come in for Liam and the other inclusion this week is Tyson White who was named as 18th man last week.

"Arlin Paki is out as he is visiting family.

"Hughie Stanley is actually moving into the centres this week and Hayden Buckman will move on to the wing."
