Southside hold out for narrow win over Cap Coast
From The Capricorn Coast Mirror
A gallant Cap Coast ran out of time to secure any points from a 2-1 Premier League Division One loss against Southside on Saturday night at Apex Park.
It was a close, exciting contest with play moving from end to end rapidly.
German import Liddy was given a small amount of space and fired into the net in the 51st minute for Southside to break the deadlock.
Coast had more opportunities but Southside knows how to protect a lead.
A deflected drive from Alden Gregory in the 75th minute put Southside two up but Coast substitute Jarod Lancaster struck back soon after from a darting run up the middle.
It cost Southside a red and several yellow cards for their tenacious 2-1 win.
If Coast can show the same grit next week on a bouncy Clinton Park and shut down Mitchell Innocend, they're in with a good chance.
In Division Two, Coast controlled most of the match but all attacking plays from Southside were thwarted with solid Coast defence and Bec's saves in goal.
Ben Parker scored in the sixth minute and Doug Armstrong hit a powerful volley off a corner kick that Tim Cahill would have envied to give Coast a 2-0 half-time lead.
Armstrong, Brothchie and Midford put on three more worked goals in the second half to claim a satisfying 5-0 win for an undefeated Cap Coast squad.
In Community Men's and Women's matches on Friday, Scott Reece hit the bar twice and Matt Ouston hit the goalie even more but Coast blew their chances to go down 1-0 to Nerimbera White at Apex Park.
Meanwhile, Cap Coast Women defeated Nerimbera White 5-0. Coast dominated the entire game with Georgia Kane asserting her speed and skills to dictate play in the girls' victory.
