CSG protest over licence renewals

ACTIVISTS have adorned the Grafton bridge with more than a dozen banners in protest against coal seam gas mining.

Clarence Alliance Against Gas spokeswoman Lynette Eggins said the Coalition's recent buy-back of exploration licences outside the Northern Rivers had not convinced the community they were safe from CSG.

"We are in the middle of an election campaign and the government recently bought back a couple of small, inconsequential licences but the fact is much of the Clarence is still covered in licences and therefore threatened by this toxic industry," she said.

"The government is saying one thing, but ... the simple fact is they have renewed four licences across the Clarence."
