TWO winch-capacity helicopters based at Sunshine Coast Airport have joined the search for six men missing after a fishing vessel capsized and sank north of the Town of 1770 overnight.
McDermott Aviation sent the two Dauphin helicopters north each with two crew on board after one of the boat's occupants had been found floating in water off Middle Island.
Queensland Police have since asked the company to send any other available machines to the scene.
Simon McDermott said the first two helicopters were first asked to fly to Bundaberg but have since been brought forward into the search zone.
The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has advised seven men were on board the vessel fishing for sea cucumbers when it capsized at around 7.30pm Monday.
It said the vessel sank several hours later with no distress signal activated. One survivor was found around 7am today by a passing boat.
More information to come.
