Livingstone Shire Council budget focuses on water

THE 2015-16 Livingstone budget will deliver a $4.4 million investment in water, waste and stormwater infrastructure in the next financial year.

Deputy Mayor Graham Scott, whose portfolio includes major infrastructure, said the 2015-16 budget would address regional growth and help return the shire's infrastructure to the highest standard following Cyclone Marcia.

"Council crews have done a fantastic job to ensure the major facilities were up and running again post cyclone but major upgrades and repairs are still needed," Cr Scott said.

"Council has allocated more than $600,000 to ensure the Emu Park sewage-treatment plant can come up to full working capacity and a further $284,000 to finalise main works at the Wattle Grove pump station in Cooee Bay.

"Pipework and pumps at the Saint Faiths reservoir in Yeppoon will receive a $450,000 upgrade while $200,000 will be spent replacing six filters at the Woodbury water-treatment plant.

"Council will invest $200,000 replacing a number of water mains across the entire shire and a combined $100,000 has been allocated to replace the high lift pumps at Waterpark Creek and carry out seepage works at Kelly's Dam in Byfield.

"Residents in the remote area of Ogmore will also benefit from a $70,000 upgrade to their water-reticulation system.

Cr Scott said flood mitigation and drainage improvements were also key priorities in the 2015-16 budget.

"More than $2.3 million dollars has been allocated towards improving stormwater infrastructure," Cr Scott said.
