Coast Guard gets hot water systems thanks to gambling fund
THE volunteers of the Yeppoon Coast Guard are in hot water - and they couldn't be happier.
And thanks to people having a flutter on the pokies, money from the Community Gambling Fund was given to the Coast Guard to buy a new hot water service.
The Member for Keppel, Bruce Young, turned on the tap to let the hot water start flowing.
And the commander of the Yeppoon Coast Guard, Arthur Hunt, lathered up his hands with soap and used the hot water to wash it off.
"It might not seem much but to get a simple piece of equipment like this means a lot to a volunteer organisation like ours," Mr Hunt said.
He said a hot shower also helped rescued boaties recover more quickly if they had been stranded at sea in bad weather.
