Brrrr ... minus 7 degrees on the Granite Belt
IF YOU ever needed a reminder that winter has arrived, then this morning was it.
Temperatures again plummeted across south-west Queensland with many towns on the Darling Downs waking to a freezing July morning.
It dropped to an amazingly cold minus 7 degrees in Stanthorpe about 7.15am.
It was minus 3.3 degrees in Oakey, just west of Toowoomba, at 6.35am, slightly colder than the Granite Belt town of Applethorpe, which shivered at -3.2 degrees.
Oakey's apparent temperature at 6.30am was a bitterly cold -7.3 degrees.
It was a relatively mild 2.3 degrees in Toowoomba at 6.30am, but the apparent temperature was a chilly -1.5 degrees.
It was -2.4 degrees in Warwick at 6am, -1 in Miles and -2.1 in Dalby at 7am.
On the Sunshine Coast, motorists reported ice on their windscreens in some locations.
Those wanting to escape the cold should have been at Hamilton Island, where the temperature was almost 18 degrees at 8.30am on Wednesday.
