Kicking report ‘out of character’ for Magpie

COLLINGWOOD captain Steph Chiocci has defended teammate Sarah D'Arcy, declaring the incident where she kicked an opponent was "out of character".

D'Arcy was reported on the spot during Friday night's season opener against Carlton for kicking Sarah Hosking and faces a nervous wait to find out her fate when match review officer Michael Christian assesses the incident on Monday.

The Magpies forward made contact with Hosking's groin as she attempted to get up off the ground.

"It's extremely out of character," Chiocci said. "Sarah D'Arcy plays the game fairly. She's a really quiet and reserved kid.

"She'll be disappointed with that footage but we'll have to leave it up to the match review panel to see how that goes."

Chiocci revealed D'Arcy was "disappointed" in her actions post-match but it's now out of her hands.

"It's a waiting game now but hopefully she's available for selection and can repay us and pay some good footy," she told Women's Footy.

It will be Christian's first challenge on Monday, when the league's sole adjudicator assesses Round 1 matches.

With no fines applicable in the AFLW, a suspension is the only sanction possible for D'Arcy if found guilty.

The force of the kick was enough for Hosking to be pushed into the air and off her feet before hitting the turf.

"Yeah it hurt, I'm not going to lie," Hosking told Channel 7.

"I'm just glad I'm not a boy that's for sure.

"I'm sure I'll have a little bit of a bruise later.

"You don't want that sort of stuff to happen.

"We'll leave it up to the umpires and the match review to deal with that."
