Comet cowgirl eyes star role
THE Man from Snowy River has been one of Ally Dingjan's favourite movies since she was a little girl, so she's got her fingers crossed that she will land the role of Jessica after auditioning for the part on Saturday.
Working on a cattle property outside Comet, the 22-year-old didn't hold back when she heard about the auditions for the Man from Snowy River Arena Spectacular, the feature entertainment at Beef Australia 2012, to be held at Rockhampton Showgrounds from May 7 to 12.
"I always loved the movie from a young age so to be in a re-enactment of it would be like a dream come true," Ally said.
"This is my first time trying out for anything like this so I thought why not have a go."
Ally, who has worked with horses all of her life said she has finally landed her dream job after moving to Central Queensland from Victoria.
"My parents say I could ride before I could walk so it was great to go out there and ride the best I could, and hopefully that's what they're looking for," she said.
"I absolutely love it up here, it's been a lot of hard work but I've got my dream job."
Producer of the show, Mark Eady said it was a great turnout on Saturday, with about 35 registered to audition on the day.
"We found that everyone who auditioned even as young as eight that there was no one that we can't use, everyone did really well," Mark said.
"Then we've got our acting auditions which include musicians and actors, so that's another big recruiting process, overall there are about 250 people in the production."
Auditions for acting roles will be held in Rockhampton at the Dance Star Studios located at 179 East Street (Inferno Building 1st and 2nd floors) today, March 5, from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.
Beef Australia 2012 will be held from May 7 to 12.
