Comets lose injured Rothery

UPDATE 10.25am: CENTRAL Comets forward Alan Rothery has been ruled out of tomorrow’s Queensland Cup clash against Burleigh on the Gold Coast.

Rothery, 28, will miss the ABC television game after the semi-trailer he was driving hit a tree and rolled into a ditch, 1km south of Dululu on the Burnett Highway yesterday.

The former NRL player remains in a stable condition at Rockhampton Hospital with a serious leg injury.

Rothery was trapped in the badly crushed cabin of the vehicle for more than two-and-a-half hours at the scene of the accident, 1km south of Dululu on the Burnett Highway.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman yesterday said Rothery suffered pelvis and leg injuries, but was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a stable condition.

She said the truck also leaked a small amount of fuel after the crash.

The accident occurred about 1.20pm.

The former NRL player only returned from suspension to play his first game of 2011 in the Comets’ victory over Easts in Brisbane last weekend.
