Communities committee meeting cancelled after no quorum

ROCKHAMPTON Regional Council's Communities Committee was cancelled this morning after four councillors did not attend the meeting.

Council needs half the committee, not including the chair, to hold a meeting.

Cr Stephen Schwarten informed council he would not be attending, while councillors Glenda Mather and Ellen Smith are on leave.

Cr Bill Ludwig also did not attend the meeting.

Cr Ludwig was on 4RO this morning discussing the Capricorn Coast Independence Movement's release of its budget today, which he says will prove a new Livingstone shire will be sustainable without requiring rate rises to subsidise a split.

One Capricorn Region's Geoff Murphy accused councillors Ludwig and Wyatt of neglecting their duties as they pursue de-amalgamation.

Cr Wyatt attended this morning's meeting before it was cancelled.

Cr Ludwig refuted Mr Murphy's claim, saying he had been elected to represent the Capricorn Coast community five times.

CCIM's budget will be released at 11am today at a press conference in Yeppoon held by CCIM chairman Paul Lancaster.

The communities meeting was adjourned to March 19.
