SHE IS one of Moree's most beloved community members and she needs our help, and needs it fast.

The chances are you know Sally Kilner - mother of Lucy and Matilda, wife of Baz, operator of Kilner's Livestock and selfless community volunteer - personally.

If it's not the thick Scottish accent that gives her away, her hearty and infectious roar of a laugh is hard to miss.

Sal has touched all sectors of the Moree community, and livestock transport industry, through her involvement in local groups including the SES, Scouts, the St Philomena's and Moree Primary School community and the Moree Saleyards.

After two huge fights against cancer in recent years, the Kilner family has been devastated by news that Sally's cancer has returned for a third time.

In light of this, a group of community members has instigated a 'Live Life Like Sal' campaign to help aid the family financially during this time.

Come Saturday September 16 the the Moree Rugby Club will become a wonderland for young and old, with a Live Life Like Sal Family Fun Day providing a great day out, all in the name of a good cause.

Committee member Jane Humphries said the group was inspired by Sally's unwaivering positivity and can-do attitude, and that the campaign was also a reminder to all to 'live life like Sal'.

"Sal's treatment is not straightforward. It requires a team of 12 different specialist."

"Very little of this cost is covered by Medicare and despite insurance and cancer support services, financial assistance is only provided for initial cancer treatment - subsequent cancer treatments require up-front payment."

And for the next two months Baz Kilner, a second-generation Moree transport operator, is set for a baptism of fire as he takes two months out of the truck to care for Matilda and Lucy.

Prime movers will be replaced by Prime Possum and a dolly is about to take on a whole new meaning.

The Family Fun Day will include a highly coveted auction, a full live entertainment program including local sister performance duo Jac Lillyman and Stevie Jean, a Kids Corner, fireworks, plus a full bar, BBQ and canteen facility.

"The community has been so generous supporting this campaign and we have some phenomenal auction items," Mrs Humphries said.

"And for a $10 ticket the little ones get all the Kids Corner activities such as a jumping castle and face painting, and for adults there's a complementary grazing table access and a great night out ensured."

Having completed her major surgery successfully, Sal is now preparing for the next stage of her treatment, and Mrs Humphries said that her resilience and recovery had amazed doctors.

"We are all so thrilled with her ability to 'bounce back', although she still has a couple of massive hurdles to jump, including meeting with her team of specialists to plan her chemo and radiation journey."

"With her family based all over the world, Moree has become Sally's family, and it is heartbreaking to see such a vibrant, happy and eternally positive local dealt this next challenge - but we are so grateful for everyone's support so far and know this event is going to be a wonderful reflection on the soft spot so many people have for Sal."

Gates to the Live Life Like Sal Family Fun Day on Saturday September 16 at The Moree Rugby Club open at 3pm and runs well into the evening.

Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at SRF Accountants and Mark Coulton's Office.
