Controlled burn this weekend

THE Queensland Fire and Rescue Service will be conducting a hazard reduction burn at the Theodore State School swimming pool area this weekend to reduce vegetation before the bushfire season.

Burns like these are designed to reduce fuel load and are especially relevant to the Theodore area due to recent high rainfalls encouraging high grass growth in the region.

Local firefighters have conducted a letter box drop to residents informing them of the burn.

Motorists in the vicinity of the Theodore State School swimming pool, Leichhardt Highway, and surrounding streets should do the following:

  • Be aware of possible smoke and ash during the day
  • Be aware of a possible smoke hazard on nearby roads
  • Drive with lights on and to the conditions of the road
  • Reduce speed and be aware of people— many QFRS staff and volunteers and fire trucks will be in operation near the road side.
