Cop 'somersaults' as car hits him at 121kmh

 POLICE officer somersaulted high into the air, miraculously escaping serious injury, after being hit by a car travelling 121km/h last night.

The officer was struck by the car while conducting speed enforcement duties on Roberts Rd, Greenacre, in Sydney's south-west, about 8.30pm last night.

The senior constable, wearing an approved reflective vest, held out a "Stop Police" sign and signalled for the driver to pull over with a torch.

The car instead sped up to overtake a taxi and struck the officer.

Footage of the incident captured on CCTV shows the officer attempting to flag down a vehicle before he was hit by the Mazda 3 hatchback.

The footage shows the senior constable being hit by the car and quickly composes himself before walking off the road.

He suffered injuries to his hands and legs and was taken to Concord Hospital in a stable condition.

The driver did not stop and was last seen travelling down Roberts Rd.

Police are looking for the driver and the vehicle, which caused damage to the nearside wing mirror and possibly the bonnet.
