Corrie the top gun at rodeo ride
BRAD Corrie claimed top honours in round seven of the Bullzeye Top Guns Rodeo at the Great Western Hotel.
In a field of 17 open bullriders on Saturday, only three scored and at the top of the ladder was Corrie.
Corrie gave an impressive performance to take first place with 83 points from brother Steve Corrie on 76 points.
Event organiser Brian Duggan said it was another great night in the Top Guns series with many riders stepping up from last round.
"Brad and Steve Corrie rode really well," Duggan said.
"They've really matured and they're producing some really good rides and getting it right."
An unsuccessful open bull ride from Brett Cross saw the door open for competitors Allan Powell and Jill Lyons who are neck-and-neck in the competition to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the United States.
Powell claimed first place in the saddle bronc with a great ride while Lyons also produced mentionable results in the barrel ride.
The bareback competition saw Rob Aubrey take the win while Sarah Morgan won the barrel ride.
Duggan said the night saw some great riders emerge as well as a lot of bumps and bruises come Sunday morning.
With some tough bulls in the line-up, the crowd witnessed many a tumble, with one rider transported to hospital for observation after a nasty fall.
An enthusiastic crowd of rodeo fans provided a great vibe and atmosphere throughout the night and Duggan said he was pleased with the turnout.
"It was a really fun-filled night and we're lucky to have Bullzeye on board," he said.
"The series offers great prize money and great competition and over the season we've seen some great riders settle in the area so they can compete."
The Great Western Hotel will see its next great night of bullriding action in round eight of the Paul Archer The Good Guys Young Guns Rodeo on September 21.
