Council set to swoop on nesting plovers at Music Bowl

ROCKHAMPTON Regional Mayor Margaret Strelow was ducking and hesitating as she took off up the hill at the Rockhampton Music Bowl yesterday while two plovers were busy swooping and protecting their nests.

News crews, musicians and council staff alike struggled to get down and out of the area without being swooped, raising definitely concerns about the birds nesting on the grounds where the Carols by Candlelight will be held.

With just five days until the carols will fill the air with music, the birds were filling the air with squawks and a flapping of wings.

Council staff - and Cr Strelow - had every intention of finding a way to remove the plovers before the carols start.
