Countdown to Beach Party
THE Capricorn Coast Community Events team is in final countdown mode for this year's Great Australia Day Beach Party on Thursday, January 26 on Yeppoon's Main Beach.
CCCE chairman and event co-ordinator Bill Ludwig said the emphasis of the celebrations would again be on family and community fun, with a wide variety of entertainment, beach sports and competitions to entertain young and old.
"For the early birds, there will be market stalls from 8am with arts and crafts, food and refreshments, along with street theatre and rides to entertain the kids," Mr Ludwig said.
"A sensational program of entertainment from 10am will feature nationally recognised entertainers, including Australian comedy icons Tripod, internationally recognised comedy magician Sam Angelico, The Kooltones Showband, Big Top Entertainment and street theatre shows.
"Local talent will also feature strongly and include Shoeless Joe, Club 28, Grandpa Billy & Miss H, Dan Miller, Teachers Incorporated, Bush Poet Bob Pacey, LA Modelling with the latest Rip Curl surf fashions, dance troupes and lots more."
Beach activities on the day will feature the Mirror Sand Sculpture competition with more than $600 up for grabs in prizes, Morning Bulletin Bare-Bottom Boat Beach Regatta and the Club to Club Surf Challenge.
Other highlights will be the Keppel Bay Sailing Club Open Fun Day, CCYC sail-past, a lolly drop, ice-cream licking competitions, rides and amusements, along with the Ergon Energy Monster Fireworks Finale about 7.45pm.
Mr Ludwig said the event had long been recognised as one of the largest and most popular in the state.
"That exceptional reputation has been thanks to our very capable and hard-working committee and volunteers, the generous support of corporate, business, the council and media sponsors, and importantly the fantastic community spirit here on the Capricorn Coast," he said.
