Country folk stoked with NBN reception

BEFORE Rachael Kenny got hooked up to the National Broadband Network (NBN), it was almost impossible to run her business.

The Mt Jukes resident had a 3G mobile broadband that would continually cut out, making it impossible to do banking as part of her business, Arktic Air Conditioning, which she runs with her husband, Adam.

"As soon as I heard about it I was really keen to hook up," she said.

"We were not able to get ADSL because we're in the country, we're too far away from the connection board.

"It's so hard to run a business without using the internet."

For the past month they have been using the NBN on their rural property.

"It's so fast we can run a number of things at the same time," Ms Kenny said.

"We can have a number of computers, a smart TV that the kids watch, on at the same time and an iPad as well, running off the same thing."

Now they can check Facebook without lengthy delays and watch iView on the smart TV.

Ms Kenny also doesn't have to get up early or wait until late afternoon to do banking or for emails to load.

The rural resident has also scored the NBN more quickly than some of her friends who live in Mackay.

"When I told some friends in town that I had it, they said:

'What, we haven't got it yet!'," she said.

"I was surprised we got it before they did, usually country people are last to get anything. "We're really pleased." Ms

Kenny said she recommended getting the NBN and doing what she did - keep checking the website every few weeks to see what areas were connected.
