Couple on watch for neighbours

DAPHNE and Dudley McMillan's dedication to looking after the Koongal community has been formally recognised.

The couple are founding members of the Koongal 1 Neighbourhood Watch, which began in April 2005.

They have been presented with a Neighbourhood Watch Certificate of Excellence for dedication and commitment, as volunteers to their local Koongal community.

The award was presented by Jan McSweeney, president of the Rockhampton District Neighbourhood Watch Committee.

“They are among our hardest working volunteers,” Jan said.

She said Daphne and Dudley were also heavily involved in neighbourhood watch at a district level.

Jan said the Koongal members had been able to reach out into their community through trivia nights, which raised thousands of dollars for the Lakes Creek school and emergency services such as Angel Flight and Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service.

She said they also supported senior community members by holding morning teas and sing-a-longs for their enjoyment.

Kath Ireland said the new Autism Centre in the Koongal area would be the recipient of the group's next trivia night on Saturday, October 17.

The trivia night will be held at Nerimbera Brothers Football Club hall, Horner Street, Koongal at 7pm.

“It will be a fun filled evening with members of the community combining their talents to answer questions on general knowledge, local knowledge, history, geography and music, to name a few,” Kath said.

“Laughter will be the order of the night.”

She invites teams of six to nominate at $7 per person.

The night's theme will be black and white.

Teams should register by October 10 by phoning Kath on 4926 0133 or Leanne on 4928 8516.
