Still together after 75 years

THEIR love has spanned decades, beaten the odds and endures to this day.

This year, Daisy and Walter Hansen celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.

They have lived in the region almost their entire lives, were married here (time has blurred the wedding date) and raised their family here – and celebrating their milestone anniversary has given their family a chance to reflect on their lives spent here on the Fraser Coast.

“They are more than proud of that achievement,” their daughter, Faye, said of the longevity of their marriage.

The couple, who married in 1936, had three children together – Faye, Owen and Lorraine.

Daisy was born in Maryborough and lived in Bauple for a short time.

The couple moved away from the area for a few short years but soon returned and have since lived in Point Vernon.

Walter and Daisy, aged 97 and 98 respectively, now live at Tricare, an aged care residence in Hervey Bay, and while residents usually get their own rooms regardless of marital status, these two haven't been parted.

Faye said it was a mark of how close the two were, and how important it was that they be together, that they still shared a room.

“They've always been really happy together.”
