Cowgirl Amber has her eyes on double rodeo prize
RODEO: Amber Patteson has the chance to ride away with two buckles in the final of the Young Guns series.
The Alton Downs cowgirl is currently leading both the junior and rookie barrels and will be looking to produce her best in the Great Western Hotel arena tonight and win the ultimate prize.
"It would definitely be a big achievement,” she said of the prospect of winning both titles.
But with double points on offer in the finals she knows it won't be easy, with Shannon Kime nipping at her heels in the rookie barrels and her sister McKayla and Holly Cant poised to strike in the junior barrels.
Kime will be riding high after placing first in the open barrel race at the Kickin' it for a Cure 4B's Rodeo last weekend.
Amber said she and her horse were primed and ready to race.
"He's pretty fresh and fit so hopefully we'll go alright. I'd like to take both the titles,” she said.
Tonight's final will also see action in the peewees, the poddy and steer ride and the junior and rookie bulls.
Clermont's Aaron Kleier is currently leading the rookie bulls in the Young Guns series and will also saddle up in the rookie and open bull in the Top Guns final tomorrow night.
The 18-year-old is enjoying a purple patch, his most recent success coming a fortnight ago in the final round of the Top Guns where he won the open bull and tied for first in the rookie bull.
The modest cowboy said he had kept his routine the same in the countdown to this weekend's finals.
"I've tried not to change anything. I have to keep level-headed on the night and not think of it as a final but just another rodeo.
"I just need to get out there and ride my bulls.”
Action starts at 7pm both nights.
