CQ father saves son's life

A CENTRAL Queensland father saved his son's life when a tree fell on their truck in a freak of nature.

The two were moving a horse on Carinya Station, near Baralaba, when the tree came tumbling down, crushing the cabin about 9.30am yesterday.

The 30-year-old son, who was driving, was knocked unconscious.

The father was in the passenger side.

He managed to move his son onto the passenger side and drive back to the homestead, about 200 kilometres from Rockhampton, to raise the alarm.

Emergency services arrived, including Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, and had to remove the roof of the cabin to free the son.

He was stabilised at the scene then taken to Rockhampton to undergo further treatment.

A Rockhampton Hospital spokeswoman said the 30-year-old was in a stable condition late yesterday afternoon.
