CQ mine evacuated

WORKERS were evacuated from Moranbah’s Goonyella Riverside mine yesterday after a suspicious bag was found.

Moranbah police Constable Terry Nickless said the mine’s administration building and surrounding work areas were evacuated within 400 metres of the bag, which was found by administration staff about 5.30am.

Police spoke to night shift workers about the bag, described as a clutch purse the size of a tissue box.

Constable Nickless said police photographed it and a worker was able to identify it as hers.

The area was deemed safe and employees were able to return to their duties.
