Lap up CQ’s Christmas weekend with the Keppel Kraken

IT'S a smorgasbord of activities for Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast residents this weekend as the festive season swings into full gear.

And the action doesn't come any hotter than at tomorrow's official opening of the Keppel Kraken, Yeppoon's zero-depth water feature.

The opening coincides with this year's Carols by the Beach and is part of a fun-filled day, including markets.

Organisers are anticipating the biggest Carols by the Beach to date.

Meanwhile in Rockhampton, the Music Bowl will be reborn tonight as Mayor Margaret Strelow hosts the city's Christmas carols.

There's plenty of fanfare during the day as well as Fantastic Furniture opens its doors.

For art lovers, the Rockhampton Art Gallery will re-open today with a family fun day to celebrate a new exhibition featuring plenty of pieces to keep parents and children alike entertained.

The Fantastic Worlds exhibition showcases the work of 11 Australian sculptors, as well as an area where children can unleash their creativity.

The family fun day will also feature the launch of Zombiefied: Infected by Rockhampton author C.M. Gray.

And of course, the region's shopping centres are preparing for one of the busiest weekends of the year.
