Crabman chasing his dream of international acclaim

YEPPOON DJ and original music composer Jackson Crabtree, aka Crabman, is chasing his dream of being an internationally acclaimed artist and he is seeking the support of the Central Queensland community.

Jackson had no idea he had been entered into the Earthcore Bush Doof artists competition by his mate Thomas, and it was an even bigger surprise to find he had been short-listed to the final five.

The Facebook competition offers one original artist the opportunity to play a 60-90 minute set at this year's Earthcore in the Park at Ivory's Rock on December 2.

It would be a dream come true for Jackson, who is an avid lover of music, art and all things creative.

Jackson said he had always loved his music and he travelled to many bush doofs before experimenting with composing tracks himself just three-and-a-half years ago after the first Tropical Bloom in Yeppoon.

"I fell in love with it after going to the first Tropical Bloom,” he said.

"I started out doing film and editing then found my passion for writing music. I am very tech savvy and have been learning my chord theory as I go.”

Jackson said his passion came from the joy he saw on the faces of the audience members, the smiles and pleasure that came from the music.

"My style is bush prog (progressive) trance. It is a very tribal sound using the sounds of nature and instruments such as the didgeridoo.

"I would love to eventually take my sound internationally and play at festivals all over the world, that's my dream.”

Jackson said he had dreamed about playing at Earthcore and thought it would be something he would do about three years from now.

"This opportunity was very unexpected and now that it is right in front of me, I really want the opportunity,” he said.

"It is not about money, it's about making people smile and helping them to enjoy themselves.”

Jackson has performed as Crabman at Tropical Bloom 2017 and Psy language 2017.

To win the competition Jackson needs votes on the Earthcore poll.

He is running second in the poll and is asking the community to help him reach his dream. To vote for Jackson, go on Facebook, search Earthcore, scroll down to the poll that lists five finalists, including Crabman, comment and repost your favourite set.

The poll closes October 30.
