Crash kills young driver

THE crushed wreckage of a Holden Commodore at Fitzroy Towing in Rockhampton is a haunting reminder of a car crash on Friday night that killed a 23-year-old Caves man.

Rockhampton Police duty Sergeant Mac Duus said the man's brother was in a car following him when the crash occurred.

The man's vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree about 8.20pm on Barmoya Rd, 25km north of Rockhampton at the Caves.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off the car to get the body out.

The man was the only occupant of the vehicle.

Sgt Duus said the cause of the accident was still being investigated. The crash brings the region's road toll to 15 for the year.
