Crash victim's name released

AS GREGORY Pierre Harvie drove away from his home at The Caves on Friday night a tragic fate awaited him only 2.5km down the road.

The 23-year-old’s car crashed into a tree about 8.20pm.

The accident was on Barmoya Rd, 25km north of Rockhampton.

CQ regional traffic co-ordinator Inspector Lyle Mitchell yesterday released the accident victim’s name.

He said Mr Harvie lived on Barmoya Rd and his wife had come down from their nearby home to the crash site to identify her husband’s body.

Mr Harvie’s brother was in a car driving behind him and saw the accident happen.

Firefighters were forced to cut the roof off the white Holden Commodore to extricate the man’s body.

The driver had been the only person in the vehicle.

The cause of the accident was still being investigated yesterday.

The crash brings the region’s road toll to 15 for this year.
