SES battle weather chaos

THE SES was called to assist with nearly 30 jobs around the Rockhampton region yesterday in the midst of the wet weather chaos.

Rockhampton Regional Council SES unit local controller Eddie Cowie activated crews to attend minor storm damage and low-lying home flood damage in Rockhampton, Mt Morgan, Yeppoon and Emu Park.

He said crews were called to about 20 jobs in Rocky, three jobs at Mt Morgan, and three at Yeppoon and Emu Park.

About 10am yesterday morning a heavy downpour at Mt Morgan caused part of a roof to collapse.

“Crews secured a tarp to the damaged area of the roof to prevent any further water damage from happening,” Mr Cowie said.

Mr Cowie said sand bags were handed out to residents in areas where there was localised flooding as a precaution.

Council also dumped a load of sand on the corner of Rodboro and Dean Streets for residents needing to sandbag their yards.

SES provided general advice to residents living in low-lying areas around the region throughout the day.

Residents who need assistance with flood or storm damage should contact the SES state-wide call centre on 132 500.
