Fire breaks put in at Cawarral

UPDATE: RURAL fire crews are stepping up the backburning process at Cawarral.

This morning they returned to a grass fire burning at Dairy Inn Road - it had been burning safely within containment lines overnight and there was no immediate threat to houses.

At 10.49am crews started dozing fire breaks at Cabbage Tree Creek Road and requests were made for additional rural brigade assistance.

The grass fire, which started around 11.40am yesterday, has burnt more than 50 hectares of land and is producing thick smoke.
