Crikey! Robert Irwin turns 13

HE HAS travelled across the world, appeared in a film and on television, helped wrestle and tag crocodiles in the name of research, performed in front of crowds of hundreds more, all before his 13th birthday.

In his childhood Robert Irwin has even co-created and illustrated a book series, won a Nickelodeon Kids Choice Award and been nominated for a logie.

Today he becomes a teenager, and to celebrate, Australia Zoo is throwing the gates open to everyone under the age of 14 - for free (with a paying adult).

120 Aussie heroes - guests specially selected from hundreds of nominations of individuals and families in need of some Christmas cheer this holiday season - will travel to the Zoo with Nova's Fitzy and Wippa to get the party started.

Because of Robert's love of dinosaurs, Bruce - Australia Zoo's resident roving velociraptor - will be cruising through the zoo, and Robert will be joined by his mum Terri and sister Bindi while he feeds our modern-day dinosaurs - the saltwater crocodiles in the Crocoseum during the daily Wildlife Warriors show.

Santa is also expected to put in an appearance at the Wildlife Warriors show.
