ANYTHING less than a Wesley Hall Cup in 2014 would be a failure for Capricorn Coast, says attacking midfielder Jarod Lancaster.

Jarod Lancaster celebrated his debut as Capricorn Cougars captain with a man-of-the-match display against Whitsunday Miners at Jardine Park yesterday.

The 21-year-old plumber said he planned to finish this season on a high before heading to Brisbane to try his hand in the National Premier League.

"Anything but winning the Wesley Hall (Cup) is a failure, we've got a pretty strong side this year," he said.

"(After that) I'm keen to go to Brisbane next year, but I'll see what happens. The A-League is a bit ambitious, but I hope to find a NPL team.

"I couldn't commit to the Energy this year with a bit of TAFE on in Brisbane."

It was Lancaster's first outing since the Coast's 6-5 win over Frenchville in the FFA Cup tie on March 15.

Without knowing, Lancaster fractured his ankle in the Frenchville Sports Club Six-a-Side pre-season competition in February, but continued on before the pain became too much.

"It was just in a tackle. I didn't know it was fractured until I got a scan on it four weeks ago," he said.

"The doctor said it should be right now."

Lancaster scored the Coast's opening goal after 18-year-old Mitch Hunter put him into space, before Ged Kelly put them ahead 2-0 midway through the half. Lancaster scored his second goal to hand Capricorn Coast a comfortable 3-0 half-time lead before left midfielder Jake Wilson put the result beyond doubt in the second half.

Frenchville goal-scoring wizard Michael Cay remains at the top of the CQ Premier League goal-scorer's list after scoring his fourth goal of the season on Saturday night. Cay scored his side's lone goal as Clinton inflicted the reigning Wesley Hall Cup winner's first loss of the season.
