Cutters need you
THE Mackay Cutters want your help this Saturday.
The team faces a tough task when it tackles the Northern Pride in its first home game of the Intrust Super Cup season at Virgin Australia Stadium.
And after a loss to Redcliffe last week, the Cutters want to bounce back and snare their first win of the season.
That's where you come in.
Club captain Grant Rovelli said the Skills Training Mackay Cutters hoped to have a big home crowd supporting them.
"That's probably the most important thing," he said.
"We're looking forward to playing in front of the home fans."
Rovelli said in the few games the Cutters played at the stadium last season, the crowd had lifted the team.
As a former New Zealand Warrior and Cowboy, Rovelli has played at plenty of big venues, including ANZ Stadium. He said it was an awesome experience running out in front of a packed crowd at ANZ.
However, he said as a Warrior, there was nothing better than playing at home at Mt Smart Stadium.
Rovelli said regardless of how big the crowd was, the spectators always made plenty of noise to buoy their team.
He said Mackay fans could create a similar atmosphere at Virgin Australia Stadium.
There's plenty for league fans to get excited about this Saturday.
It will be an historic occasion because it's the first time all three grades of Cutters - Queensland Cup, under-18 and under-16 - will play the same teams at the same venue.
Rovelli said the northern derby against the Pride was a game the Cutters always looked forward to. But he knows the Pride is a big threat.
"They're always strong," he said.
"They've been lucky to be able to hold the nucleus of their team together for a couple of years now."
The Cutters will be without fullback Dean Tass, who has a thigh strain.
David Milne moves to fullback and Michael Thomas comes in on the wing.
