Cyclones take out Townsville to win second state title
ROCKHAMPTON Oztag open women have continued their dominance after taking out their second consecutive state title at last weekend's 2015 Senior State Cup.
Enterprising team play guided the Cyclones to a win over Townsville in the grand final on Sunday afternoon.
Rockhampton Oztag co-ordinator Ryan Scott said the defending champions produced a thrilling 3-1 victory, with a strong second half dominance.
"It was one-all at half time with Townsville opening the scoring," Scott said.
"But our girls came out of the blocks with quick momentum in the second half with tries from Jade Ah Wong and Lauren Moss.
"The whole team played outstandingly it's hard to single out a strong individual performance."
He said a strong kicking game from Hayley Arnold and determined effort from injured Tegan Rolfe helped secure the win.
The Cyclones took away six teams with the open men, open mixed and senior mixed knocked out in the quarter finals.
"They did very well in their pools and were unlucky not to progress further in the finals," Scott said.
Cyclones open women's Britt Cunningham, Lauren Moss, Tegan Rolfe, Shannon Ah Wong, Hayley Arnold and Jade Ah Wong were recognised for their efforts with selection in the Queensland side.
Mooki House, Amber Shephard and Taleisha Clarke were selected in the QLD under-17 side alongside Neil Beckett in the senior mixed and Cameron Johnston in the open men's team.
